Focusing on School Expansion in a Growing City

The city of Blaine is the 9th largest city in Minnesota with a 2023 population of 74,000 residents. Blaine's population growth is 1.79% per year, adding about 1,200 new residents annually. Blaine has been consistently expanding its residential and commercial properties at a heightened pace in the last decade. Although this growth can be beneficial, it is beginning to put immense pressure on city, water, and academic resources.

In the 2021-2022 school year, some families with children enrolled in Anoka-Hennepin schools were being forced to enroll in multiple schools. These parents were under stress from maintaining multiple school schedules and routines, and not being able to ensure their children attended the same school.

New families in Blaine and Coon Rapids need to have confidence that the Anoka-Hennepin School District will provide adequate facilities for their students with classroom sizes that foster academic excellence.

What Steps Zach Arco Will Propose

1. Cooperate with the Blaine City Council to ensure adequate planning for educational facilities

2. Protect families from having their children divided between multiple schools in the event of inadequate academic facilities
